I created the page to promote the University of Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team. My hope is that this page will be able to spark community interest in the UAA men's basketball program. The women's basketball team has seen remarkable success with their Facebook page. I hope to equal this success in order to shed light on the accomplishments and achievements of the student athletes and staff at the University of Alaska Anchorage. I also hope to increase attendance at the basketball games by providing season schedules as well as updates and reminders about upcoming games and events.
Personas:
George and Stacy (43 and 41) : Both George and Stacy graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage. George played basketball for the school from 1991-1994. They are both proud UAA Alums and they strive to support their local team. They try their best to attend as many games as they can, but sometimes they forget and could use reminders about upcoming games. When they can't make it, they wish there was a quicker, easier way to access scores and results.
Bradley (52): Bradley is a high school basketball coach who likes to take his team to local sporting events, especially UAA games. He is very active on Facebook but does not know how to navigate other websites well, and finds the UAA athletics site particularly difficult to navigate.
Bonnie (22): Bonnie moved to Anchorage to go to school at UAA and hasn't found many fun things to do. She loves to watch basketball, especially college basketball, but she doesn't know that her school has a very successful Division II college basketball team. She finds out about the team and wants to learn more.
Tactics:
1.) UAA Men's Basketball has a very active Twitter account that I plan to link to the Facebook account. I am going to request that the Twitter account tweet periodic reminders to follow the Facebook page, and I am going to promote the Twitter account via the Facebook page as well.
2.) In the initial stages, I am going to ask the administrator of the women's basketball page to promote and share the men's basketball page that I created. The women's basketball page has a substantial amount of followers and gets hundreds of likes on some of their posts. Additionally, the target audience for the UAA women's basketball team is going to overlap significantly with the target audience for the UAA men's basketball team.
3.) I am going to promote the page via my own personal social media platforms. I am very active on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and I have a decent amount of followers on each. Many of the people who follow me are from Anchorage or live in Anchorage, and many of them share my love of basketball.
4.) The page will include updates on the team schedule and other media announcements, including team pictures and upcoming events. Once the season starts, the page will provide reminders about upcoming games, as well as scores and results from games that have already occurred. People will be able to use the page to track the success of the team and find out when games are and how to buy tickets, etc.
